Am I insured as a sitter?

At Petbnb, we understand that the safety of pets and property is of utmost importance. That's why we offer various insurance options to give both sitters and owners peace of mind. Below, we explain how our insurance works and what you need to keep in mind.

Liability Insurance
When you pet sit through Petbnb, you are covered by our liability insurance. This insurance comes into effect if the dog you are sitting causes damage to a third party. There is a deductible of €250. Our insurance company handles these claims directly with you. The insurance only applies if the liability arises during the pet sitting or dog walking of a dog that has been booked and paid for through Petbnb.

What is covered?

  • Liability up to €2,500,000 per claim, with a €250 deductible.
  • Damage to the pet for which the sitter is liable, covered up to €2,500 with a €250 deductible.

What is not covered?

  • Liability for damage that animals cause to each other.
  • Liability for the reduced "show value" of the pet.
  • Property damage, such as damage to furniture and objects (e.g., coats, cars, bikes, etc.).

Veterinary Cost Guarantee
Petbnb also offers a veterinary cost guarantee. If the pet needs medical care while staying with the sitter, Petbnb will reimburse 50% of the vet costs up to a maximum of €250. It is important to note that this guarantee only applies if the booking and payment were made through the Petbnb platform.

How does it work in practice?

  • Booking and payment via Petbnb: Ensure that the booking and payment have been made through the Petbnb platform to be eligible for the guarantee.
  • Veterinarian visit: If the pet needs to visit the vet during the pet sitting, submit both the invoice and the vet's report with your claim.
  • Personal pet insurance: If the owner has their own pet insurance, we ask that they use it first before claiming the Petbnb guarantee.
  • Submit to Petbnb: If the owner doesn’t have pet insurance, they can submit the claim to Petbnb. Provide the necessary documents (invoice and vet report) to Petbnb to receive reimbursement of 50% of the costs, up to a maximum of €250.

No Property Insurance
Unfortunately, we cannot offer property insurance through Petbnb. This is because insurance companies often do not cover damage to homes during pet sitting. This is due to the difficulty in verifying the condition of the property before the pet sitting begins, which leaves room for potential misuse. Therefore, it is important that you ensure you have appropriate property insurance. Check with your insurance company to see if your policy covers damage caused by pets, and consider additional coverage if it does not. In the case of property damage, we ask that the sitter and owner work together to resolve the issue amicably.

Conclusion
At Petbnb, we do everything we can to ensure that sitters, owners, and pets have a safe and worry-free experience. We offer liability insurance and partial coverage of veterinary costs, but you will need to arrange property insurance on your own. Make sure that owners always book and pay through our platform to be eligible for our guarantees, and keep the necessary documents on hand for quick processing of any claims.
